A major update to help residents and visitors find their way around Bolton is currently in the works.

In April 2024, David Lock Associates were appointed to devise a wayfinding strategy for Bolton Town Centre.

The purpose of the wayfinding strategy is to improve the visitor experience of Bolton town centre by making the town centre more legible and accessible giving everyone clear directional signage, place marking the town centre’s key attractions and services.

The signage also aims to make the town centre user friendly and easier to find the quickest and most direct routes for all users, also supporting visitor retention through provision of information to extend visits.

A significant addition and improvement to the town centre public realm, the wayfinding will provide; health benefits by encouraging walking, tourism and commercial benefits by encouraging exploration, improving experience and thereby encouraging visitors to return.

In this way, the scheme will have a significant and positive impact on the future of Bolton as one of the most exciting and enjoyable cultural towns in the UK to visit.

The implementation of the wayfinding strategy will start in the new year and be completed by April 2025.

This project has been funded by UK Shared Prosperity Funding and Towns Fund.
